Upon waking up this morning, I was rather surprised at how pain-free my knee was feeling. I was very aware of it, but able to walk (albeit slowly) unassisted by my cane or (as they were to be taken as needed and upset my stomach), my painkillers. Nurse Tiffany and I played our new copy of Tiny Epic Western and finished up the first season of Supergirl while I intermittently iced my knee. I even went on a quick field trip to the library to pick up a couple of things that were waiting for me. And after such a great day, I even dared to think that maybe this recovery wouldn’t be so bad after all.
But when dinnertime rolled around, so did my first real taste of knee pain since yesterday’s surgery. With painkillers and anti-inflammatories down my gullet and my cane in hand, I settled in for the rest of the night: watching the new Russell Peters standup comedy special on Netflix while icing and elevating my knee.
I guess this road isn’t going to be so easy after all.
