In an effort to get to know my coworkers and get involved at my new job, I signed up to participate in a company bocce tournament about a month ago. I did this never having played bocce before and having zero knowledge of how the game works, but bringing to the table a lot of heart and willingness to learn!
The morning of my first match, I scrambled to read up on traditional bocce rules so I wouldn’t let my partner down. While my teammate and I did not advance to the next round of competition in my company’s tourney, I enjoyed the game immensely and thought it was something Bryan and I would enjoy doing together.
Thanks to Amazon, a heavy package arrived on our doorstep a few days later. And just like that, Bryan and I had the perfect excuse to visit Balboa Park, enjoy the sunny San Diego weather, and play a new game.
I was right about bocce. It’s a game we both really enjoy. It’s relaxing, precision-based, and simple, yet contains just enough strategy to keep us on our toes. And it gets us outside, together, to enjoy the city we love. Is there anything better than that?
