Fun’s A’Brewing: Christmas in April with Madras Curry Stout

Before I get started, you have to promise not to judge us. Okay, now that that’s out of the way…

Bryan and I have lived in San Diego for nearly a year, and before tonight, we hadn’t made our way to Ballast Point’s tasting room. I know, I know. Sacrilege for alleged beer lovers. But if it makes it any better, I am seriously regretting our tardiness, and I feel like we have a lot of beer to drink to make up for lost time.

Per usual, we each got flights to sample as many beers as possible. The standout of the night? Ballast’s Indra Kunindra, a stout infused with Madras curry, cumin, cayenne, coconut, and Kaffir lime leaf. I was ready for this beer to “not work,” but I was pleasantly surprised by its knockout flavor and overall drinkability. Bryan thinks it tastes like Christmas. We brought home a growler. I think stout floats with cinnamon ice cream are in order!

And then…

Ballast, we’ll be back. Pretty sure we’ll need a refill soon.
