When I first heard about T.I.M.E. Stories, I wasn’t entirely enthused with the concept—a game with a story that you can only play once. But when I started to hear from many of the board game reviewers that I trust (The Dice Tower, Jeff Cannata, etc.) about how great of an experience this game created for its players, I couldn’t help but have my interest piqued.
We decided to make it a real weekend experience with our great (and avid board gamer) friends, Jonny and Sam, who were coming to visit us. I ordered the base game system which comes with the first story mission (Asylum) from my usual go-to online game store (CoolStuffInc) and, when our friends arrived, opened the box.
I won’t go into too many details to be as spoiler-free as possible, but I will say that the experience was incredible. The production quality of the game is great—wonderful art and theming. The story that unfolds is super engaging and had us all on the edge of our seats. (Pro tip: play the soundtrack from the original Bioshock video game as your background music. It adds an awesome bit of ambiance to the mix.)
Bottom line: we all loved it and can’t wait to play the next story expansion!
